Designed to create a warm and inclusive environment

The B.E.N. School-House is located in Toronto in a converted house in a residential community.   It provides a small and intimate classroom environment. For young children, this is an ideal circumstance for warmth, safety and enjoyable learning.  We are located across the street from a park, and within walking distance to other parks and recreational facilities.  In addition, we have a large yard with an inviting and intriguing landscape that curious minds and bodies love to explore.

Children grow up knowing that they are part of the community in which they live and go to school in.  This offers children the experiences to meet the neighbours, explore different aspects of our neighbourhood, observe and even take part in what happens daily in our surroundings.

Designed to encourage learning and cooperation 

A good learning environment is essential for effective learning. Our welcoming environment is meant to break down barriers between teachers and students.  Also, when children are physically comfortable, there is less stress and interruption affecting the learning process.  We also encourage healthy nutritional choices and children learn to value their bodies and their environment.
To promote a healthy environment to learn and grow, our classrooms incorporate the following:
  • natural and full-spectrum lighting
  • age-appropriate furniture made mostly from natural materials
  • specific colours chosen for the walls of each grade to enhance calm states and focus
  • considerations given to minimize electro-magnetic field interference
  • natural and safe cleaning products
  • open windows for fresh air
  • radiator heating during the winter months
